Children and Young People

Children and Young People

Our worship of God seeks to be welcoming and informal and accessible to all ages. Kids and Youth Church activities take place during part of the main 10.00 am service. Here children and young people can explore the Bible and discover what Christians believe through stories, crafts, games, song and prayer.

Once a month we have a special all age service, which is an informal time with interactive teaching and prayer times.

St Andrew's Community Church is physically joined to the  St Andrew's Primary School building (CofE/ Methodist Voluntary Aided). We love working together and enjoy supporting each other.

Some of the Outreach Events include:

SCAMPS: sing, clap and praise services for pre-school children, their parents and carers on Tuesday at 2.15pm

Discovery Club; a weekly Christian after-school club for primary aged children. Christian crafts, stories and games on Wednesdays straight from school until 4.30pm.

Children's Summer Holiday Club and Easter Activity Day are times we explore stories and teaching from the Bible with 4-11 year olds

SPARKS AND ENLIGHTEN YOUTH is a youth club with wall to wall packed activities for kids from reception primary age to 16+.  The club meets together for opening time and tuck shop, then splits into separate groups, SPARKS in the main hall for games, hang out, music, circle time, crafts and free time (for ages 8 to 11) and ENLIGHTEN in the lounge for 12 yrs +, engaging in more 'grown up' stuff, and exploring issues that our teens face today growing up and making sense of an ever challenging world.   We also offer Friday night tea for just £1, of one main dish, eg fish fingers, burger, hot dog, spaghetti bolognese, Pizza, etc and includes a pudding and a drink.

Doors open every Friday during term time from 5pm til 7pm.  £1 admission.  For further info contact Elaine Hollings on 07903 155997.

Currently, we are unable to meet physically.  Until then, we have a closed Facebook group where we connect weekly with our Sparks youngsters, and for our older youth, we meet weekly via Zoom.  We intend to get our clubs back up and running just as soon as it is safe to do so.

Christian Camps

Each year through our partnership work with Valley Cids ( a local Christian Charity) children and young people are invited to attend a discipleship camp at the peak Centre Edale and for the older children the Soul Survivor Christian Festival.

Our Childrens and Youth Worker

Elaine Hollings is our appointed part-time paid Childrens and Youth Work Co-ordinator.  Her role includes facilitating links with the local primary schools through youth club sessions during term time, as well as co-ordinating family and social events during holiday time.  She holds the Aurora qualification in youth ministry, as well as paediatric first aid, and regularly updates her personal development through participation in conferences on childrens and youth work, understanding the development of the adolescence and teenage brain, and mental health in children and young people.  In January 2021, with the support of Paul Mellars, Elaine is enrolling on a 3-year program of lay ministry with a view to specialising in work with children and young people.
